Napo Lake and Wildlife Center

Oriente,
Ecuador

During our three days spent at the Napo Wildlife center, we hiked with our bilingual naturist guides, finding some of the 565 species of birds that have been recorded here, we woke to the sound of the titi monkey and have seen 6 of the 11 species of monkeys to be found here. We ventured out in the canoe and have seen black Caimen and Paichi, (Amazonian fish that can grow up to 2 meters long) we watched otters swim and fish. We strained our eyes to see the camouflaged reptiles and could hardly believe our eyes when we saw a 6 meter anaconda basking in the sun. We tried so hard not to tread on any of the insects that scurry underfoot.
I shared my room with a tree frog and yellow lizard, and every evening watched as the lake became lit with jewels, - the eyes of the hundreds of caimen.

I am not a wildlife photographer by any stretch of the imagination, as you know but despite this I must share a few photos with you for the story.
