Election Day

Washington D.C.,
Verenigde Staten

Exactly two weeks ago today it was Election day in the US. I was in Washington DC with a high-level delegation to cover the Elections. We had just came out of a meeting with the President's staff at the Old Executive Building which is just next to the White House when we heard a commotion on the front lawn. A helicopter had landed to whisk President Obama away to his last campaign rally for Hillary.
As we all know, his efforts and those of many others failed to get the first women President in the White House next January.
That day was full of optimism in Washington, whilst meeting with both senior Democrat and Republicans they all had the same expectations.
I was in Washington 4 and 8 years ago and witnessed spontaneous street parties as Obama was elected and re-elected. That evening as the results came in Washington was quiet, the streets were dead, people were in shock. Washington DC is not Trump country.
