Malmo,
Zweden
(GG): Good evening Mr. Calatrava. I am Gary Gashandle and I'm honoured you agreed to an exclusive interview for travelreporter. While I present my viewers your bold and beautiful building 'Turning Torso' in Malmö maybe you can explain what it is you get inpired from to create such structures. (SC): Thank you Mr. Gashandle. You may call me Santiago. (GG): Only if you call me Gary! (SC): Ok Gary, I love to combine art, architecture and engineering in a way that my creations fit into the landscape. It is mainly based on the structure and abilities of human and animal bodies. For instance, this Turning Torso is based on a half turning human upper body. (GG): Wonderful! Can you tell us something about how this thing was built? (SC): Good question Gary! In short we erected a large support tube in the middle in which we constructed the elevators. Around that we built several uniquely shaped sort of cubicles which we shifted a couple of degrees compared to each other so the upper cubicle is turned 90 degrees compared to the lower one. (GG): Thank you Santiago but my time is up. (SC): Never mind Gary, see you next time!I
