Samphire Hoe is the newest part of England. When the channel tunnel was dug the deposits were deposited here under the white cliffs to form a spur of land. (a hoe). There are a few walking trails and the entire hoe is protected as an area of ecological interest. There are a few rare species of plants that are growing on the chalk marl that has until recently never seen the light of day.
