The seafront - Deal

Engeland,
Groot-Brittannië

Having just returned from our home in Kent, i wanted to share a few photos of the area.

The town of Deal lies off the Downs, a key Channel shipping passage. Historically the town was the reputed landing point for Julius Caesar in 55 BC. Later Henry VIII made Deal a Cinque port and constructed three castles in the area to better fortify the coast.

Until the early 1900's, Deal was an important supply centre for ships anchored offshore, and its fishing industry continued to thrive until the mid 20th century. The picturesque town with its colourful brown shingle beach retains its old charm.
