It always used to surprise me how very few people you see wearing glasses in countries such as Burma, Bangladesh and to a lesser extent India. I am sue it is true in African countries also but I have never visited there.
Do people have better eyesight than us westerners or is it just a question of no access to optician and eye-testing facilities?
I am now convinced it is the latter.

I might add, there is an optician in Yangon- 'The English Optician" it is a glass fronted shop rather than a cubby hole such as this. He offers computerized (with thanks to Duitsland) eyetest and makes glasses from German lenses. And they are excellent. Over the past ten years both my husband and I have our eyes tested and order new glasses on our first day in Yangon, picking them up as we depart three or four weeks later.
