It is dawn on day two on the Sita Ram festival, the sun has not risen yet but already the ghats are full of pilgrims bathing and worshipping. Even though the women bathe in full dress it is etiquette for the women to bathe first.
Our eyes are tired from the lack of sleep and from looking all day yesterday, but we are up and out early today, we do not want to miss a minute of this. I can honestly tell you that for the thousands and thousands that converged on this small town for the three days we were the only white people. In my almost forty years of travelling and living in India, this was the highlight amongst festivals.
