On another business trip - an hours drive from the modern metropolitan city of Shanghai we visited one of the largest exporters of natural sausage casing in the world. As a vegetarian and it being early in the morning I wasnt looking forward to the visit. However, it was interesting to observe the workers. The intestines are washed and then gauged for quality and thickness, you can see this is the foreground. Eye and hand coordination is of the utmost importance and therefore the workers must concentrate, and talking is forbidden. Can you imagine standing opposite someone for eight hours, (one shift) and not be able to speak? The coloured buckets signify the varying thickness of the intestines and for my eye brightend the otherwise sterile environment enough to pick up the camera.
