It was often difficult to interact and photograph the children in the villages that we stayed or passed through during our trek. Many shyed away or cried, not being used to seeing, "white monkeys" as the locals affectionately called us.
But luckily there were a few, that were curious enough to engage with us and allow us to photograph them. Here a young Khumi girl, I loved her little clip in her hair that she seemed to be very proud of. This was our talking point.
Many of the young girls have shaved heads or at least very, very short hair. It easier to maintain with the lice, and ringworm. I am not sure how old she is, but obviously she is now being allowed to grow her hair, and I think hence the clip.
