Travelling on Myanmar’s historic railroads is very slow but do eventually get to your destination. And being slow provides plenty of opportunities to engage with locals. Riding ordinary class is the cheapest way to rail around Myanmar. It comes with simple wooden benches and no glass windows only shutters that can be opened or closed. First class offers wooden benches with cushions but is only available on certain trains. Monks travel for free in Ordinary Class.
