A day in the life at Sadarghat
Dhaka,
Bangladesh
Sadarghat on the river Buriganga, is one of the most busiest and dynamic places in Dhaka. Small boats constantly cross the river to and fro. Here the dabawhalahs are ferried across the river.
The word “dabbawalah” , means “one who carries a box”. “Dabba” means a box (usually a cylindrical tin or aluminium container). The closest meaning of the dabbawala in English would be the “lunch box delivery man. And whats for lunch - we guess, pulses, vegetables, a small piece of mutton, about 4 chapatis and rice and don't forget the pickle.
